After many years in architectural practice, I enter the world of Artspan. I jokingly consider myself a recovering architect interested in artistic expression.
Over most of the years of my life, as a relief from the real world, I've engaged in some type of artwork. I've built architectural models and used the mediums of pencil, markers, and watercolors to create mostly representational art pieces as well as greeting cards for family and friends.
About two years ago, I developed an interest in abstract and contemporary art. I think of my work in a broader sense as non-representational art.
I like to apply the practice of interweaving geometrical shapes in not only a structured approach but also a free-form, looser approach. In the past two years, my initial efforts were limited to acrylic paint on paper. As my practice of art evolved, I included various texturing materials to effect mixed medium art. As a break from the more structured approach, I often enjoy simply laying down the various materials to see what happens. With this approach, many good things just happen while working on the piece. I feel an artist needs to have the discretion to recognize this and incorporate these happenings when appropriate.
I enjoy photographing, in a more artistic manner, the less-noticed details of everyday objects I've been told by some that they can see relationships between my photography and my artwork.
I am happy to present my art. I hope you find enjoyment in viewing.
